Spinning

A short distance from the lodge, you can reach numerous bays and islands by boat, where you can cast your lines in hopes of catching trout and pike, not to mention the many perch that eagerly bite between worthy catches. Each boat can accommodate a maximum of 2 anglers plus a guide, or 3 anglers without a guide. The guide is helpful for catching more fish and navigating safely, but it is not mandatory. The best time for trout spinning is the beginning of the season (February 15 - April 30), with decent catches also in summer and again abundant in the last weeks before the closing date on September 30. Our guides are well-acquainted with trout migrations throughout the year and know where to find them depending on the season's progression and communication among local anglers. As for pike fishing, the entire spring/summer period is excellent. When it comes to pike, it is easier to know where to find them since they are often resident fish, and knowing the areas of the lake with shallow depths and abundant aquatic vegetation, like our guides do, is key. Management reserves the right to decide whether or not to allow guests to use a boat without a guide, based on their boating experience, knowledge of the lake, and weather conditions.

Fly Fishing

On Lough Corrib, fly fishing is famous for catching abundant and plump trout, adorned with a golden hue like the lake's bottom. In May, fishing tourism significantly increases on the large Irish lakes due to the hatching of the famous mayfly, as the numerous bays of the lake fill with hungry trout that leap spectacularly to catch flies on the water's surface. Anglers witnessing this thrilling yet poetic sight can’t help but feel like children, hoping the next trout to jump will do so to take their artificial fly. Fly fishing runs from early April to the second half of July and is divided into phases depending on the type of fly that hatches: March 31 / May 1 (buzzer) April 15 / May 15 (olive) April 15 / May 30 (mayfly) June 1 / July 1 (cedar) June 1 / July 1 (sage) July 1 / July 30 (2nd mayfly) Trout fishing is open from February 15 to September 30, and the periods mentioned above are the best times, but both the start and end of the season are also very productive when fishing with wet flies. Management reserves the right to decide whether or not to allow guests to use a boat without a guide, based on their boating experience, knowledge of the lake, and weather conditions.

Trolling

While trolling in search of ferox trout and pike, you will traverse large portions of the lake that offer unforgettable views of stunning landscapes surrounded by water and mountains. The record for ferox trout on Lough Corrib is 16 kg, and it is said that the largest pike ever caught weighed 30 kg. Equipped with a fish finder, downriggers, and rod holders, you will seek fish worthy of the front page of your photo album. There is no specific period better than others for trolling; it is generally good throughout the season, particularly productive on windless days. Right in front of the lodge, we have excellent spots for this type of fishing, with waters reaching the deepest points of the lake. For this fishing method, we have a specific boat equipped with downriggers that can take your lures to the desired depth while keeping them perfectly perpendicular to the boat as it moves. Clearly, a guide is mandatory for practicing this technique, as they know the lake's depths and how to properly position the rods for fishing.
